Get Your Own Wright Flyer (sort of)

Imagine it’s December 1903 and you’re standing alongside maybe a dozen souls at Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina. You’re there to watch what must seem like one brother helping another commit suicide in the most convoluted way possible, when to your surprise no one dies and Orville was unsuccessful in his attempt to soar as high as Icarus. Although, as a consolation, he can settle for being the first person in history to control a heavier-than-air machine in a powered flight.

According to this eBay listing you can own your very own copy of the original Wright Flyer. Don’t expect to be able to match Orville’s achievements as this version doesn't come with a working engine and the propellers hit the steering mechanisms while spinning anyway.

The seller says that this replica is true to the original Wright Flyer plans and materials and would provide a museum with a means of giving folks a bit of hands-on with a relic that set the way for the modern world. So, if you have an extra $25k burning a hole in your pocket (museum not required, but preferred) then click through and get this 1:1 scale model today. Offer expires on or around July 11th, 2024.

You might be wondering why we’re posting about this on a website dedicated to preserving the memory of automotive marks long past (and, if we’re honest possibly a little too much NASCAR talk) then hop over and read our bio about the Speedwell Motor Car Company and find out about its connection to the Wright Brothers.
